Irish Sea Pilot

BIM068

The Irish Sea is a huge, almost landlocked sea. Around its shores and islands there are no fewer than six countries, provinces or protectorates. Several languages are represented- English, Welsh, Irish, Scots Gaelic and Manx, along with countless accents and dialects. Its waters teem with life- dolphins and porpoises are a common sight- leatherback turtles come here from the Caribbean to feed on the jellyfish and whales are regular visitors. In the air there are gulls, puffins, guillemots and more. The range of challenges and coastlines is astonishing. Tides above five knots are commonplace and yet there are calm, sheltered waters for relaxed wandering. This well established pilot covers both sides of the Irish Sea from Milford Haven to Portpatrick, and Rathlin Island to Carnsore Point. From his base in Liverpool David Rainsbury spent much of 2014 revisiting the coasts he describes. The sailing directions and descriptions, updated for this second edition, cover all the places that provide shelter. At the start of each chapter there are useful coasting notes which deal with some of the more difficult passages and tidal gateways. The harbour text is then clearly organised so that essential information regarding accessibility, tides and shelter always proceed the pilotage notes which are supported by clear full colour plans. For this second edition the harbour plans have been updated and throughout new photos have been added. The text records all changes as well as including a new section on wind farms. Milford Haven to St Ives including the Navigable Severn to Worcester. This colourful new edition of the Bristol Channel and Severn Cruising Guide is based on Peter Cumberlidge's popular classic originally published by Stanford Maritime. This new book contains all the latest information on Bristol Channel and Severn marinas, harbours and anchorages. From Milford Haven up to Lydney on the north shore and from Sharpness down to St Ives on the south shore. The pilotage is clearly charted in Imray's user-friendly style and lavish photography conveys the full atmosphere of this magnificent unspoilt cruising area. Peter Cumberlidge has included a fascinating sequence of features on the maritime history of these waters and suggests many places of interest to visit ashore. This new edition also covers the glorious inland Severn beyond Sharpness up to Gloucester, Tewkesbury, Worcester and Stourport. Peter Cumberlidge is a well known yachting and travel writer, contributing frequently to UK and European boating magazines. He has known the Bristol Channel since he was taken cruising here as a youngster and has a great sympathy for the timeless havens on both sides of the Channel.

Cruising Anglesey and Adjoining Waters

Cruising Anglesey and Adjoining Waters

BNWV01

Ralph Morris's guide to the island of Anglesey and the North Wales coast was first published over 30 years ago. At that time it covered little more than the island itself. Over the years the pilot has been extended and it now provides information about tides, dangers, harbours and anchorages from Liverpool (marina) to Aberdovey (the same waters covered by Imray's 2700 chart pack), plus the author's own chart graphics.

This fully updated tenth edition is spiral bound for easy cockpit use, full colour, chart graphics, aerial views (courtesy of Google Earth) and nearly 100 original photos. It also makes reference to the most noteworthy event in recent years, the wholesale destruction of Holyhead Marina by Storm Emma in March 2018.

Ralph Morris learned his way around Anglesey the hard way - in a day boat with a single chart and a compass which one day chose to fail in fog. That's not the only thing which prompted the decision to write this pilot, though. The prime mover was the increasing scarcity of Henry Glazebrook's 'Anglesey & North Wales Coast Pilot', which has got him out of many tight corners. The detail and precision of Glazebrook's "Anglesey & North Wales Coast" pilot, is legendary and, through this guide, the author hopes to maintain its accessibility to yachters sailing these waters.

Rites of Passage

Rites of Passage

BIM266

For some, sailing experience is measured through harbours visited and miles logged. But, certain stretches of water pose unique challenges and their reputations hold a strange power in the imagination of all who set sail. Completing one of these passages is an initiation, a rite of passage that leads to respect of others and a new self-confidence.

Yachting Monthly, the Royal Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation and Imray have collated a dozen or so of the milestone passages through, around and across British waters that should be on every cruising sailor’s to-do list. The resulting Rites of Passage is an inspiring and informative book which will help all sailors, from those new to cruising to the much more experienced, reach those milestones.

With a nod to the 1980s book Classic Passages, and published as a series of abridged features in Yachting Monthly magazine from January 2019, the book includes expanded features, illustrated by photographs and pilotage information, about the passages and about the arrival cruising grounds including plans, tide diagrams and other key information.
