The Mariner's Handbook for Australian Waters (AHP20) is an official nautical publication providing mariners with important regulatory, procedural and environmental information affecting the planning and conduct of a voyage to or from Australian ports, or within Australian waters. It includes a summary of all relevant information from various Australian government agencies under the cover of one combined reference, with links to further information if required. It is expected that all commercial vessels operating in Australian waters carry and refer to the publication, updated to the latest Notice to Mariners.

Ice Navigation in Canadian Waters is published by the Canadian Coast Guard in collaboration with Transport Canada Marine Safety, the Canadian Ice Service of Environment Canada and the Canadian Hydrographic Service of Fisheries and Oceans Canada. The publication is intended to assist ships operating in ice in all Canadian waters, including the Arctic. This document will provide Masters and watchkeeping crew of vessels transiting Canadian ice-covered waters with the necessary understanding of the regulations, shipping support services, hazards and navigation techniques in ice. Chapter 1, Icebreaking and Shipping Support Services, pertains to operational considerations, such as communications and reporting requirements as well as ice advisories and icebreaker support within Canadian waters. Chapter 2, Regulations and Guidelines provides a summary of information on regulations and guidelines for vessels transiting ice covered waters. Chapter 3, Ice Climatology and Environmental Conditions covers information on the Canadian ice and weather environment. Chapter 4, Navigation in Ice Covered Waters, is instructional in nature, with information provided to help familiarise inexperienced personnel with passage planning, navigation procedures in ice, vessel performance in ice, and other essential operating procedures. Chapter 5, Ship Design and Construction for Ice Operations provides the mariner with basic information on engineering, hull and auxiliary systems for vessels operating in ice

Dr. Verwey's Tank Cleaning Guide provides procedures for cleaning of cargo tanks on chemical and petroleum tank ships. For more than 400 bulk liquid cargoes the tank cleaning cross table gives guidance on how to clean from the previous cargo so that the tank is acceptable for the next cargo. Tank cleaning procedures are listed for some 170,000 previous to next cargo combinations. Additional frequently transported cargoes have been added. The theoretical part has been extensively upgraded and includes now also Washing Water Analysis. A digital version of Dr. Verwey's Tank Cleaning Guide is released together with this new book edition. This web-based application enables instant access to the cleaning procedures without browsing through search tables and cross-reference tables. Next to the cleaning recipes, a Knowledge Base is included that provides comprehensive background information related to tank cleaning.  The purchase of the book includes a certificate that allows accessing the digital version for one year.

Dr Verwey’s Tank cleaning guide contains cleaning proposals for frequently shipped bulk liquid cargoes. This comprises Noxious cargoes regulated by Annex II as well as oil cargoes regulated by Annex I of the MARPOL convention. The cleaning of Annex II cargoes is often very difficult, as the subsequent cargoes usually have different chemical properties than the cargo to be cleaned. To make matters worse, the cargo to be loaded often has extremely high purity requirements (Ultra High Purity Cargoes).

In shipping of Clean and Dirty Petroleum Products (CPP and DPP), the cargoes differ little in terms of their chemical properties and thus complicated cleaning is less common than in chemical shipping. But there are many exceptions to this rule because some cargoes in this trade have also high purity requirements. Examples include aircraft fuel or fuels with very low sulphur content. A particular difficulty arises when it is necessary to switch from Black cargoes to clean cargoes (DPP to CPP).
